- Using EPGcenter with MV
Knowing that MV (the most sommonn used
EPG plugin on the dreambox) is not that easy to
configure or at least it will complain or not
do anything when you misstype just one character
I decided to write an indepth tutorial on how
to get MV to work with EPGcenter.
Altough it only takes a few minutes to do this
it can be a hassle for users new to both EPGcenter
and the Dreambox. Please know that this is no
indication that EPGcenter is complicated to use
because it isn't.
So here we go ...
A dreambox with the MV plugin installed
EPGcenter installed with already the desired
input locations and channels configured. For example:

I will assume that you already have your Dreambox
connected to your network.
IP Address
First thing you need is the IP address of your
dreambox
On your Dreambox
Click Menu, Select Setup, Expert Setup,
Communication Setup

The top box is your Dreambox's IP Address
Userid and
Password
Most users leave the userid and password for
their dreambox unchanged. The default values are
root for the userid and dreambox
for the password
In EPGcenter
Click the Options Tab
Click FTP Upload

Check Perform FTP transfer after
update
This tells EPGcenter that it should automatically
upload the EPG data to the specified FTP server.
In our case the Dreambox.
The fields will already have default values entered
but you need to verify that they are correct
Enter the FTP Account. In our case that
will be root
Enter the FTP Password. In our case that
will be dreambox
Enter the FTP Server. Here enter the IP
address of your dreambox
Specify the FTP Destination
Do this by clicking on
the small button next to the entry field.
This will make a connection to your dreambox (provided
that the FTP Account, Password and Server settings
are correct).
On the browser window that appears navigate to
the desired location.
To keep it simple you can
navigate to the myxmltv directory which
by default is already created by the MV plugin.

Click Select
Change the upload format to CFE File
This format provides much better performance
with MV because MV will not have to convert the
XMLTV files.

Click the Options Tab
Click the Dreambox Tab

Click the small button next to the
inputs.txt location field and navigate
to the directory where the file inputs.txt
is located
The file inputs.txt is a configuration
file of the MV plugin which tells MV where to
get its EPG data

Click Select
Click the Update button
This is the most important part of all. Clicking
the update button will connect to your dreambox
and update the inputs.txt file for you

On your Dreambox ...
Open MV (usually this is done by
clicking on the red button)
Press menu on your remote

Select Input Config
Check the first input location and select
EPGcenter

In the Tmp Detail Store select /var/tuxbox/config/mv
which actually is the directory containing the
xmltv directory
In the Storage Dir select /var/tuxbox/config/mv
which actually is the directory containing the
xmltv directory

Click Done
| Testing
your Configuration |
Go to EPGcenter and upload the EPG information
to the Dreambox by pressing F6.
This will (1) download the EPG information from
the internet and (2) upload that information to
your Dreambox
On your Dreambox zap to a channel that
you've added in EPGcenter and open MV
